Trotz dieser gro&#xDF;en Zahl ist die Atmosph&#xE4;re nur eine relativ d&#xFC;nne Schicht um die Erde &#x2013; alle wichtigen Wetterph&#xE4;nomene spielen sich in der untersten Atmosph&#xE4;renschicht ab, der Troposph&#xE4;re, die bis in eine H&#xF6;he von 12 bis 15 Kilometern reicht.<\/p>\n<p>Von der Ur-Atmosph&#xE4;re, die vor 4,5 Milliarden Jahren gemeinsam mit der Erde entstand, ist nichts &#xFC;brig geblieben. Verwitterung von Gesteinen und sp&#xE4;ter das Leben haben zur jetzigen Luftzusammensetzung gef&#xFC;hrt &#x2013; eine Mischung aus 78% Stickstoff, 21% Sauerstoff und einer Anzahl weiterer Komponenten, unter denen Wasserdampf und Kohlendioxid die f&#xFC;r uns bedeutendsten sind.<\/p>\n<p>Das Leben auf der Erde ben&#xF6;tigt die Atmosph&#xE4;re nicht nur zum Atmen.
