While large changes in the water level have been relatively common, rising temperatures and altered <a class=\"glossaryLink\" title=\"Glossary: precipitation\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;precipitation&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Water falling from the atmosphere to the ground in liquid (rain) or solid (snow, hail) form.&lt;\/div&gt;\" href=\"https:\/\/esa-schoolatlas.eu\/esa-schoolatlas\/it\/glossary\/precipitation\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">precipitation<\/a> patterns have led to prolonged droughts, causing the reservoir&#x2019;s water levels to plummet. In recent years, Lake Oroville has experienced alarming drops, with water levels decreasing by up to 60 metres in some instances. In this context, spring 2023 was special as intense rainfall filled the reservoir, thus pausing the drought.<\/p>\n<p>To combat the impacts of <a class=\"glossaryLink\" title=\"Glossary: climate\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;climate&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Average weather conditions for a particular location over a long period of time, e.g. 30 years.&lt;\/div&gt;\" href=\"https:\/\/esa-schoolatlas.eu\/esa-schoolatlas\/it\/glossary\/climate\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">climate<\/a> change, meticulous conservation and water management strategies are imperative. Lake Oroville&#x2019;s fate underscores the urgent need for sustainable practices and climate resilience measures in managing our precious water resources.<br>\nExercises\n<\/p><ul>\n<li><strong>Satellite Map:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Look at the satellite image maps and click on the layer selector in the upper right.
