Additionally, smaller amounts of Gold, Silver and Molybdenum are produced. With its activities the mining hub provides employment opportunities for thousands in the local community.<\/p>\n<p>With its impact on the environment, Aitik&#x2019;s mining activities have raised <a class=\"glossaryLink\" title=\"Glossary: sustainability\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;sustainability&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Making use of the Earth&amp;#039;s resources while meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.&lt;\/div&gt;\" href=\"https:\/\/esa-schoolatlas.eu\/esa-schoolatlas\/glossary\/sustainability\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">sustainability<\/a> concerns, necessitating environmentally responsible practices. The mine employs cutting-edge technology to minimize its ecological footprint, with measures in place to mitigate water and air pollution.<br>\n&#xA0;<\/p>\n<h3>Exercises<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Satellite Map:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Look at the satellite image maps and deselect all satellite images&#xA0;by unticking the respective boxes.<\/li>\n<li>Select the satellite image from <strong>1992<\/strong> and try to identify the most important <a class=\"glossaryLink\" title=\"Glossary: land cover\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;land cover&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;The characteristics of a land surface as determined by its spectral signature (the unique way in which a given type of land cover reflects and absorbs light).&lt;\/div&gt;\" href=\"https:\/\/esa-schoolatlas.eu\/esa-schoolatlas\/glossary\/land-cover\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">land cover<\/a> classes.<\/li>\n<li>Add the satellite image from <strong>2015<\/strong> and describe the changes between 1992 and 2015. What has happened with the mine area? What to the settlement areas?<\/li>\n<li>Take a look to the forests around the image centre. Where does the brownish colour come from?
